Get ready to make new friends, learn new recipes and have lots of fun! The Carnival Kitchen workshops onboard both the Carnival Mardi Gras and the Carnival Panorama will get you to cooking on your vacation and you will love it!

Carnival Kitchen workshops

During a recent voyage onboard the Carnival Mardi I enjoyed three Carnival Kitchen workshops. There are several workshops held throughout the voyage, and they were all fully booked prior to sailing. The class can only accommodate 14 guests since they schedule two people per kitchen setting area. The classes cost $30 per person and are about 90 minutes in length. You get to eat all the food you cook, so be sure not to schedule right after or before a meal.

The first workshop I attended was the Morning Hustle class. During this class the chef taught us how to make the french toast served onboard, along with huevos rancheros and an egg frittata. All the ingredients you need for the recipes are premeasured and set out for you. You also receive all the recipes via email so you can enjoy making the meals when you return home.

The second workshop was the Tailgate party class. At this class we made pretzel bites, Colombian cheese empanadas, and popcorn chicken. Everything is made from scratch including the dough for the pretzel bites and the corn flour dough for the empandas.

I could not resist attending the Cupcake Academy which included learning how to make Carnival's famous chocolate melting cake. It is so simple to make and I will be happy to share the recipe with you. Due to limited time in the class, we had four cupcakes already baked for us and focused on decorating techniques. We did received the recipes for the cupcakes which was another plus. This class was so much fun and no one was able to finish up all the cupcakes especially after enjoying the chocolate melting cake a la mode!

Perfect Solo Travel Event

Although you may be paired with someone else at the kitchen station, these events are great for solo travellers. There will be workshops where parties of three have registered, leaving a spot open for one person. I was able to enjoy two of the three workshops cooking alone, which meant I had to work twice as fast to keep up with the chef but I also enjoyed twice the serving of food! The workshops are set up with ingredients to prepare two of everything - two chocolate melting cakes, two servings of empanadas, etc. So whether you enjoy the workshop with another guest or by yourself, the classes are small and interactive which allows everyone to meet and have fun together.

Voyage Travel Tips (VTT)

Registering for the Carnival Kitchen workshops prior to your cruise is recommended, but may not be available even 30 - 45 days prior to voyage. I was a walk-in on all three workshops I attended. The workshops were not included in the Carnival app list of activities. I requested the list of workshops from the host on the first day of the sailing as she was checking in guests. You can also request the printed list from your cabin stewart or guest services. Another option is to call the room service extension from your cabin phone. They will be able to let you know what workshops are being held and which ones have availability. They may also be able to add you to the wait list for the workshop or tell you their process for walk ins.
