Women of Wine: Royal Caribbean

Updated: Jun 24, 2022

Wine tasting class featuring women-owned vineyards where you become a connoisseur as you learn about different vintages and varieties of wine such as Chianti and Riesling.

On select Royal Caribbean voyages you can enjoy various wine tasting events, including Women of Wine which features 7 different varieties of wine to sample.

“This has been my favorite wine tasting class ever! A definite not-to-be missed event on your next sailing.”

Wine tasting events fill up fast, and many times even before the first day of sailing. Be sure to check for precruise bookings prior to your sailing. You can also check the Royal Caribbean app on your first day of sailing to book events. If the event is booked, you can go to Customer Service desk and ask to be put on the waiting list since there may be cancellations or they may add another event if there is enough interest.

Wine Tasting Events

Each wine tasting experience I have enjoyed has taught me something new and has expanded the love of wine. Many wine tasting events onboard cruise lines will have an extra cost and many times the cost is not printed on the activities guide. The price will usually range between $25 - $40 for many of the wine and liquor tasting events onboard a cruiseline.

The moment I walked into the Women of Wine event I knew I was going to enjoy myself. The event was held in a private area of the dining room onboard the Odyssey of the Seas. The tables were beautifully decorated with the wooden wine board and 7 glasses, along with crackers, a glass of water, and a fruit and cheese plate. For a fee of $35 you will enjoy 2 hours of wine sampling presented by a head bartender who will teach you all about wines and answer your questions along the way. At the end of the presentation our glasses were refilled with the wine(s) of our choosing making this experience quite an exceptional value for your money.

The featured wines for the event were a Sparkling Wine, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Chianti, Red Blend, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The variety of wines were exceptional. We enjoyed a short video presentation by each vineyard owner highlighting her story, the wines the vineyard produces as well as specific information on the wines chosen for the wine tasting event. The wines included in the event were from the United States, New Zealand, France, and Italy. The featured wines were from Chandon Brut Classic, Villa Maria, Lucien Albrecht, La Crema, Castello De Albola, Castellum Cite De Carcassonne, and Decoy.

Perfect Solo Travel Event

Wine and liquor tasting events are perfect for solo travellers. The events are limited in capacity and are enjoyed in a small setting such as a section of the dining room or along the bar table. The guest presenter will usually ask everyone to introduce themselves and say a little bit about why they joined the class or what type of wine or liquor they enjoy most. This breaks the ice to meet guests and after 5, 6, 7 and many times more glass fill-ups of wine or liquor, everyone will be chatty and you will leave with new friends who you can enjoy the rest of your sailing with.

Voyage Travel Tip (VTT)

Plan your activities pre-cruise as many events do book up prior to embarkation. If you find the events you want to enjoy are already booked, you can ask to be added to the waiting list by calling the reservations desk onboard from your cabin phone. You do not have to spend your precious onboard time waiting at the service desk to speak to a customer service agent. Your daily activities guide or your cruise app should have a number you can call for information. Cruiselines usually have dedicated customer service agents to answer the calls separate from the agents who are assisting customers in person. My experience has been to contact the room service extension since the events are conducted by the bartending staff and that extension has access to the events conducted by the dining staff.
